In a hastily-called press conference, U.S Navy spokesman Ralph Bankton stated that while the raunchy videos filmed aboard the Naval destroyer USS Enterprise may be considered in bad taste, they were part of a carefully orchestrated public relations campaign to distract the American and British public from the abuses in military prisons.
"These were actually filmed in 2004, and were first leaked during the Abu Gharaib controversy. Unfortunately, that was before the rise of YouTube and they didn't spread fast enough. We thought these videos would push the prison videos off the newscasts, that people would prefer gratuitous sex to torture and other human rights violations. And as current press coverage indicates, we were right."
