WASHINGTON, DC - Charlie Rangle, John Conyers, Maxine Waters and Jesse Jackson Jr. introduced legislation to abolish sales tax on certain items, labeling the taxes "racist", "regressive" and "intolerant".
The bill, entitled "Malt Liquor and Kools" (MLK) Tax Relief Act of 2010 will make it a Federal crime to tax malt-liquor and Kool cigarettes.
Group spokesman, Rev. Al Sharpton, said that the legislation was long-overdue because of the unfair burden that malt-liquor and Kool cigarette taxes have on minorities and the poor.
Sharpton added "We intend to expand this legislation to include other racist taxes that are routinely made on African Americans. McDonalds, watermelons and ribs should be off-limits to taxation by the white establishment".
