Former child star Bubbles the Chimp, famous for his live-in relationship with 80s one-hit-wonder Michael Jackson, is currently being treated after attempting suicide today at the Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles, authorities said.
Bubbles is in critical but stable condition after overdosing on Musa Sapientum Bananadine --street name "Mellow Yellow"-- a hullucinogen systhensized from banana peels, at County-USC Medical Center, said Det. Ben Rata of the sheriff's Homicide Bureau.
Bubbles was arrested July 16 on felony dug charges while playing basketball at 24 Hour Fitness in Costa Mesa. He was due today before a judge at the Rio Hondo courthouse in El Monte for a preliminary hearing, which has since been postponed.
Bubbles became famous in the 80s after starring as "BJ" in "BJ And The Bear" opposite Greg Evigan, who played The Bear. After beginning a relationship with Jackson, Bubbles enjoyed semi-retirement, appearing in summer-stock theater productions. He also provided the voice for Afghanistanimation star Johnny Chimpo, and was a valued advisor to 5-term L.A. Mayor Tom Bradley.
Bubbles reportedly tried to commit suicide in the early 90s, after it was decided that he could not live in Michael Jackson Lickaboy Ranch, for fear of Jackson's childrens' safety.
