With extra hot Hatch Green Chili, it can burn at both ends!

While most states have official state birds, state trees, state songs, or state mottos, New Mexico has now decided that they need an official state food. This new choice fits in well with the official state question ("Red or Green?") as it deals with chili. The new official state food? The green chili cheeseburger, of course.

While historians at UNM and NMSU argue over the inventor of the culinary delight (most have narrowed it down to either the Owl Cafe in San Antonio, New Mexico or one of the 75+ Blake's Lotaburger locations), diners continue to enjoy the delicacy.

In a race to join in on the phenomenon, Burger giants such as McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King are quickly trying to jump on the bandwagon and unveil their own product. The McChiliburger is due to make its appearance in early May along with the King ChiliWhopper and the Green Single.

When asked about the influence of the Green Chili Cheeseburger on state history and its place in the culture and daily lives of New Mexicans, Governor Bill Richardson denied any wrongdoing and encouraged people to support the Democratic party.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
