The depth of the recession in the US became even clearer today with the news that Gotham City has despensed with the services of Batman.
The caped crusader, who has been on payroll of the city's police department since the late 1960s was given the news in person by the city's mayor Anthony Garcia last night. A statement from City Hall said that the city "was grateful for all Batman's crime-fighting efforts over the years but the current economic crisis means it is no longer financially feasible to retain his services".
Batman himself was unavailable for comment but is believed to be considering offers from other cities, with Bradford considered to be a front-runner.
