As expected, the monthly report on new births in the US revealed that Barack was the number one boys name for children born in January.
Having seen President Obama ride a wave of popularity over the last six months, the name Barack, arabic in origin, has steadily risen in the charts.
Furthermore, the name George has steadily dropped in popularity since 2001.
What has come as a suprise though is that the name Barack, is now also the third most popular baby girls name in the US. This was the first time that the name has been used in the female context to any great extent.
This trend now makes it more and more likely that it will be commonplace in 20-30 years to see Barack's marrying other Barack's, and having baby Barack's.
