Air crash investigators working on the wreck of the US Airways Airbus A320 which ditched into the Hudson River shortly after take-off on Thursday, say they have carried out initial tests which show that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the planes engines!
Dr Ronald Grimley, one of the investigators told reporters that both engines were working perfectly, and that Captain Chesley Sullenberger may have crashed the plane merely for, what he describes as, a jape.
Captain Sullenberger is well-known as a bit of a prankster amongst his US Airways colleagues, and is no stranger to controversy.
In 2007, on a flight to Chicago, he boarded the plane dressed as his grandmother, complete with handbag and shawl, and three years earlier, in a scene reminiscent of the Airplane movie, he showed passengers an inflatable toy doll who he described as "the automatic pilot".
Dr Grimley said it was too early to say why Capt. Sullenberger had pulled such a dangerous stunt, but that he would be studying the situation long and hard in the coming years. He said:
"The captain has gone from hero to zero. It's a shame, but that's heroes for you."
