Sarah Palin, the running-mate of losing Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, has been told she must return all of the new clothes bought for her recently in the party's vain attempt to 'scrub her up'.
The Alaska Governor ran up clothing bills of nearly $250,000 as she flung off her bearskins and spruced herself up with designerwear and handbags, in order that the American public would take her to their hearts.
Included in her shopping bags were a Versace dress costing $16,000, a D&G jacket at $9,000, and a Hermes handbag at the extortionate price of $92,000. All will now make their way back to the returns counter.
The makeover was the most expensive piece of advertising-gone-wrong in US history.
Mrs Palin's fellow Republicans called for the return of the items after it became evident that the election had been lost, and Senator McCain rubber-stamped the order.
He said:
"This was good money wasted. I, myself, bought three new shirts, whilst Mrs Palin helped herself to a quarter of a million dollars' worth of swanky new gladrags. That was wrong."
