NEW YORK CITY - Every year literally hundreds of bands, drill teams, and other marching units that request to participate in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are turned down.
Millie Ninnyweather, 63, is the executive director of The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Cartoon Balloon, Float, Marching Band, and Marching Drill Team Committee or TMTDPCBFMBMDTC for short.
Ninnyweather stated, "If we allowed every band, drill team, and marching unit that requested to participate in our parade to actually appear in our parade it would literally extend for about 118 miles and would go on for four or five days and maybe eight."
She added that this year they ended up having to reject almost 19,000 drill teams alone, from throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Calcutta.
Ninnyweather said, "All of the rejects will be placed on a 'waiting list' and if some drill team should end up cancelling at the last minute the drill team that is number one on the list will be immediately notified by email.

This year the parade will be televised in high-definition to 237 countries including for the very first time Iceland and Portugal.
