New York - (Ass Mess): Not to be outdone with Barack Obama's hiring of Monty Python actor John Cleese as his Democratic nomination strategy scriptwriter Hillary Clinton has named Elton John as her official campaign minstrel.
"Cleese is just rehashing some pretty flaccid 70s and 80s TV cliches," Hillary said today.
"The real entertainment status symbol is singing from my song book here tonight."
Clinton, 69, was joined by her family on stage at Elton's New York Radio City Music Hall gig last night.
Her face lit up with delight as the singer belted out iconic numbers such as 'The Bitch is Back', 'Written in the Stars' and 'Your Song'.
Elton told the cheering crowd his 'Madman Across the Water' was written on a 1970 Potomac river boat cruise "as a prophetic number about George W Bush sliming his way into the White House."
The evening raised over $2.5 million for the Clinton campaign.
