In a shock announcement Mary Beth Cahill, who up to now has been the rock on which the Kerry campaign has been built, resigns and shifts her focus to the re-election of George W. Bush.
"All of a sudden things just didn't make sense anymore." she lamented. "I know Kerry would do a better job, but when push comes to shove you've got to look out for number one and the way things look right now, I'm going to be better off under the Bush Tax plan".
The move is, of course, a reflection of Kerry's plans to revoke Bush tax breaks for the rich, and by his definition that means those who earn over $200,000.
Sources close to Ms. Cahill confided that it was with much personal regret that she is letting the team down, but with having such a good financial year and everything it just seemed stupid to blow perhaps an extra $5k on taxes… "That's a lot of hats and shoes" she said.
Kerry was unavailable for comment.
