Today the White House announced that President Bush would be seeking his party's nomination for a third term as President.
The announcement surprised many Americans given Bush's low approval rating, and the 22nd Amendment's outright ban on a three term President.
When confronted with the Amendment's text, Bush's aides responded, "The President does not feel that the amendment is an issue. Certainly the Constitution is an important document, but with our nation involved in a war against terror, this is no time to show weakness."
In his announcement speech, the President explains his reasoning further, "Our country is at war. If we allow someone else to be elected, there is a good chance that the terrorists will win. I have some declassified documents showing that Al Qaeda has infiltrated into the highest ranks of the Democratic Party. Also, since my dad was only elected once and we have the same name, my advisors tell me that I can run for his second term."
Bush is currently set to kick off a fund raising tour at his ranch in Crawford, Texas next week.
