WASHINGTON (FMLiveWire) - The decision by President Bush to waive Scooter Libby's prison sentence proves that "this administration is corrupt to the core," exclaimed Ambassador Joseph Wilson, whose CIA wife was outed by Libby which led to his sentencing.
Wilson added, "I would only hope that Americans now realize, with this subversion of our system of justice and the rule of law in this country, just exactly how corrupt they are."
Wilson had raised doubts about the Bush junta's claims that Iraq was shopping for enriched uranium in Africa, which was a key rationale for invading Iraq to grab its oil for Exxon Mobil. Wilson went public with his investigation in 2003, thereby undermining the administration's justification for the war in Iraq.
Wilson's wife Valerie was then identified as a CIA agent, confidential information which supposedly originated from Libby. The leak was part of dirty tricks operations coordinated by the White House to smear Wilson and intimidate critics of the Iraq war.
Libby was the chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and was convicted in March of perjury and obstruction of justice. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and fined $250,000.
Karl Rove immediately condemned Wilson's remarks, saying that "Scooter took the fall for George, Dick and me. Of course we had to let him go cause of his blackmail. He threatened to spill the beans."
Bush himself agreed that he had no choice, saying, "Dick's perv threatened to upset our apple cart. Thus my decision is a monument to the lawlessness of my administration."
Wilson agreed that there was indeed a quid pro quo exchange for commuting Libby's sentence.
Meanwhile, Democrats were enraged at the Bush decision.
"Libby's conviction was the one faint glimmer of accountability for White House efforts to manipulate intelligence and silence critics of the Iraq war," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "Now, even that small bit of justice has been undone."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Bush's decision showed the president "condones criminal conduct."
Democratic Congressmen promptly launched an investigation as to the extent of involvement of the Bush and Cheney's involvement in the obstruction of justice.
As Cheney's chief of staff, Libby played a key role in fabricating and issuing false intelligence about non-existent Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and supposed ties between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda in order to push the American people into the war. Libby also helped implement Bush's illegal police state measures including the ending of due process, kidnapping and torture, unchecked presidential powers, and illegal domestic spying.
A recent poll showed that 72% of the American population opposed a pardon for Libby.
