Jefferson claims this is his piggy bank

Congressman, William Jefferson Dem. Louisiana has been indicted Monday on federal charges of money-laundering, racketeering, obstruction of justice, wire fraud and soliciting more than $500,000 in bribes connected with African business deals.

Federal investigators found an estimated $90,000 in cold hard cash in Jefferson's freezer two years ago and after an extensive investigation have charged him with 16 criminal counts. If convicted Jefferson could serve 236 years.

When questioned about the allegations Jefferson denied any wrong doing on his part or anyone in his family. According to investigators Jefferson used his office to gain kickbacks from companies, Jefferson set up a network of companies run by family members to hide the ill gotten gains.

Politicians caught with their hands in the cookie jars all have similar stories of innocence, most come up with interesting catch phrases. Including:

    "I am not a crook", R Nixon;
    "I did not have sexual relations with that woman", B. Clinton;
    "Bitch set me up", M.Berry;
    "Crime does not pay...as well as politics." Alfred E. Newman; and
    "Our elections are free, it's in the results where eventually we pay." Bill Stern.

By forgetting the past we're doomed to repeat it.

In the words of Mark Twain, "The political and commercial morals of the United States are not merely food for laughter, they are an entire banquet."
