Washington DC - (Deep Throat Press): Fearsome Chicago Special Prosecutor Patrick FitzGerald must have the US Justice Department's most enigmatic, inscrutable and totally impregnable of smiles this week.
As Democrats moved to subpoena Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for more documents yesterday in their fifteen rounds no holds barred knock-out contest with George Bush over the firings of eight US attorneys, Fitzie walked tall.
Grown men have wept at his recent knock-out punch to Dick Cheney's perjuring stooge Scooter Libby in the Valerie Plame outing probe.
And now his measured, dignified and steely professional style is sending shivers down Gonzales's back.
Because somewhere in the papers subpoenaed by Congress is the unredacted list ranking the performance and standing of each of the US's 93 attorneys.
And on that list officials have confirmed is the name of the Chicago-based prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, "one of the Justice Department's premier US attorneys".
Who someone has rated as "not distinguished."
Now who could that be?
