HOMOLULU, HAWAII-(ASSociated dePRESS)Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle and Honolulu City Mayor Mufi Hannemann were found in a most compromising position last night. A 911 call reported seeing a car parked on Round Top Drive, a notorious lovers lane with great views of Diamond Head & downtown Honolulu, slowly rolled off the cliff and into the bushes.
When the police arrived, they found a damaged Lexus, registered to Mayor Hannemann, had tumbled thirty feet down an embankment leaving the two passengers in the backseat, wrapped in each others arms. Both occupants were pinned inside with the Mayor straddling the Governor. It took the Honolulu County Rescue & "beefcake" calendar models, 3 hours to cut the two elected officials free.
Honolulu Emergency Services spokesman, Bryan Mauiwowie said, "Paramedics tended to the embarrassed couple for bumps & bruises, we believe were attained during the crash...at least we think so." Mufi speaking in a rather animated voice says, "The Governor and I were discussing matters of the day and hot topics as 'The different degrees of xenophobia inbreded in Hawaiis' local yokel population' and ah....?!" The Governor quickly cuts in finishing his sentence, "...and Waikiki entertainers, Don Ho and his youngest daughter Hoku, their smallest Ho...!", Mufi continues, " We hadn't notice that the hand brake was not set, therefore, allowing the car to slide down her bush...I mean...down into the bushes."
Breath analysis were taken with the Mayor barely passing the "walk-the-line" sobriety test not realizing he had on the Governor's high heels. The Governor thanked the Honolulu Police & Fire department for their quick response and handling of the mess. The two called a cab and prepared to leave, when the Gov turned to the Mayor and said in a hushed voice, "Now I know what the "Muf" in Mufi is all about!"
