JAMESTOWN - If New York property owners complain about a water chestnut problem, they are not talking about Chinese takeout.
The European water chestnut, an invasive aquatic plant is not the same as the water chestnut which can be purchased in cans at the supermarket. When locals became aware that the fruits can be used as a source of food and, have been utilized for their medicinal (and claimed) magical properties some of them harvested and ate the fruit. They were disappointed when they attempted to vanish and were unsuccessful.
The NY State Police reported several accidents along with heavy traffic on local roads leading to shorelines. Most of the accidents were between vehicles with company names like "Fukn John" and "Sum Yong Guy" written on their sides.
When one of the drivers was told that these were not the same type of water chestnuts served in restaurants he smiled and asked:"How do you like our chicken?"
