A 3-year-old orange tabby cat who famously crossed the United States on foot to reunite with his family after he was mistakenly left behind by movers has been run over and squashed in what family and friends are calling a 'bloodbath'.
Sammy, who in 2011, slipped his cage and was left stranded in Florida as his family crossed the country to California was pronounced dead at the scene after owner John Martin poked what was left of the brave family pet with a stick.
The tragedy occurred after 18 year old Tammy Martin returned home in the family car. While texting her friend, Sarah Watkins, she inadvertently ran over Sammy who was stretching on the driveway.
Authorities are once again stressing the importance of not allowing cats to sit on driveways. Texting, while driving; well that's just fine isn't it?
