FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - A group of Arkansas residents were surprised to receive a visit from the local sheriff.
Reporters for a local television station reported that Sheriff Hadley Foxfair, 51, received word about an illegal activity that was going on out in the woods by the old inactive volcano Mt. Peckerwood.
When the sheriff arrived at the scene he happened upon three individuals who had just dumped a total of 17 trash bags into the volcano.
One of the individuals, a female clad in a New Orleans Pelicans T-shirt, cut of jeans, and flip flops started to run but quickly stopped dead in her tracks when the sheriff fired a warning shot just over her head.
The woman was identified as Loretta Cottonfork, 38. She said that her husband Elmer Bob Cottonfork, 37, who is an unemployed banjo player, told her to gather up all of the trash, put it in the Dodge pickup, and go dump it into old Mt. Peckerwood.
The three trash dumpers were all cited for illegally dumping their personal garbage into an old inactive volcano.
SIDENOTE: Sheriff Foxfair said that he checked and there is in fact a law that prohibits illegal trash dumping into an old inactive volcano. He said it calls for a fine of $148.65 plus the guilty party has to remove the trash that was tossed into Mt. Peckerwood.
