WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Department of Naval Operations has just announced that it has decided to rename the aircraft carrier the USS Michael Jackson.
The ship which was commissioned in 2009, will be renamed the USS Elvis Presley.
DNO spokesperson Fay Shay Elfmill, 42, stated that the reason for the highly unusual name change was due to pressure from a large sector of the American public who felt that a more fitting name for a mighty American vessel would be Elvis Presley.
Mrs. Elfmill wanted to stress that contrary to some remarks that were made by a certain Harlem reverend the change is not racist in nature by any means.
She made it a point to state that the name change has the approval of many people of color including Mike Tyson, Michelle Obama, Tiger Woods, Chad Ochocinco, and Omarosa.
The ship's commander, Captain Tremain Overdollar was in complete agreement with the DNO's decision and he informed them that he had polled his entire crew and they overwhelmingly agreed to have the name changed.
So effective Wednesday, September 25, 2013, the USS Michael Jackson will become the USS Elvis Presley.
Vice-President Joe Biden along with Priscilla Presley, Kelly Clarkson, and Brett Favre will be on hand for the name-changing festivities which will take place in Boston.
SIDENOTE: Music for the event will be provided by Camel Carl & The Desert Rag Headz.
