Washington AC/DC - "Here's a dollar for your trouble, Bud," US Vice President Joe Biden told Nick Clegg today as he narrowly avoided stepping on some kerbside dog poop outside Downing Street, "see that it gets cleaned up before it ruins someone's Guccis."
Footage of the incident showing a startled British Deputy PM waiting outside in the rain to greet Biden made Stateside breakfast news despite 99% of Americans having no idea who Clegg actually is.
The trip to London is billed as Biden's last legs - er...final stage! - of a three state European tour of gaffing hot spots.
As his heavily armored vice presidential limousine swung into the street an excited Nick Clegg rushed to open the passenger door to let Biden out when the unfortunate incident took place.
The Vice President proceeded to sail merrily through the door of the Cabinet Orifice building, tipping several uniformed police officers guarding the entrance.
He then handed his hat and coat to the outstretched arm of General Sir Monty Dambusta VC and Bar, current head of the UK National Security Council, whose heavily decorated ceremonial uniform resembles that of the doorman at the Ritz Hotel where Biden has been staying.
"Sure is good to meet y'all," Biden chuckled to the assembled guests, "especially Prime Minister Thatcher and his lovely wife."
