The coffee maker on an UA wide body threatened horrible passenger death when it stopped heating coffee. The flight crew out of an abundance of caution diverted to Vegas instead of Fargo. The coffee maker was over three years old.
Captain Jim Wings Murphy had this to say. "Management has taken the road of cheapness instead of safety. A 737 just four years ago had the drink mixer go down in Botswana". FAA officials are very interested in finding out why Captain Murphy diverted to Vegas instead of ORD which is 800 miles closer.
