News International has announced a new Sunday newspaper to be launched next week; the Sunday Sun. The new offering will consist of a tabloid paper providing celebrity gossip and editorial, a magazine called Sunburst which will provide celebrity gossip and editorial, and a TV listings guide called Sundial.
News Group Newspapers, part of Rupert Murdoch's News International, say that they have been able to launch the new paper in record time due to the sudden availability of a whole group of journalists and a gap in the printing schedules. They say the Sunday Sun will fill a gap in the market and they hope the exiting new publication will quickly attract major advertisers.
The first issue of the Sunday Sun will be sold at a promotional price of only twenty pence, but the paper's usual cover price is expected to be £1. An electronic version of the Sunday Sun will also be available.
Adverts for the paper are already appearing on TV, saying they will have all the best celebrity gossip and editorial, and a promise of 'the inside story of the News of the World phone hacking scandal'.
