Popular Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs could be in for a knighthood if an MP gets his way.
Manchester Central MP, Tony Lloyd, tabled an early-day motion in the Commons asking for backing.
According to Mr Lloyd, Giggs' little-known research work in the textiles industry has led to many useful advances in sheep and wool sciences, allowing for the creation of wools that make warmer socks and jumpers, not to mention scarves and gloves.
He said of the 37-year-old Red Devil: "Ryan has given great pleasure to us. Most people know him as a footballer, but the sheep-farming background of his welsh ancestors has always been a great influence.
"When he's not scoring or creating wonderful goals or in training, he's in the lab or out in the fields working on his ideas.
"Arise, Sir Giggsy! It's long overdue."
Hear, hear!
