Wayne Rooney is looking to exploit Fanni ahead of Manchester United's Champions League last 16, second leg tie with French club Marseille. Rooney was pleased with the joy he received when attacking Fanni in the channels during the first leg last eight days ago.
"I thought they defended pretty well, but Fanni was the obvious weakness. And I thought when myself and Berbatov double-teamed Fanni, everything became stretched."
Rooney also criticised Fanni for being too deep.
"At this level, in this day and age, you need full backs with passion, width, and aggression. Fanni has neither."
Marseille manager, Didier Deschamps, has played down talk that Fanni will play in the hole to restrict Rooney's influence. Deschamps said "Fanni is a natural right back, and he enjoys playing there. What Fanni wants, Fanni gets. And besides, Fanni must prevent Evra from swinging them in. It might hurt on the night if he doesn't manage to do so."
The crucial second leg of this tie will take place on Tuesday 15th March at Old Trafford.
