New figures from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages provide an insight into the changing cultural profile of Britain today.
Currently, more newborn boys are called Mohammed than any other name. In fact, 7,549 boys were named Mohammed. Gone are Jack & Harry, which languish at 73 and 74 in the list, and you won't find an Arthur or a Stan.
Hot on the heels of Mohammed are Abdul, Ahmed, Slobodan and Mehmet, with Behar, Besnik, Velimir and Osama almost wrapping up the top 10. The only traditional Anglo-Saxon name remaining in the top 10 is Helmut.
Names based on characters from the New Testament are increasingly rare. They may even be banned in future so as not to cause offence to non-Christian citizens.
