Insiders from London's intelligence gathering community today dropped the strongest hint yet that there was no foul play involved in the sad demise of MI6 agent Gareth Williams, 30.
Initially, investigating officers treated the death as suspicious, possibly because Williams was found jammed in a suitcase in a bathtub.
Police are expected to call off the search for a couple of Mediterranean appearance who called at Williams' Pimlico flat in the early hours several days ago.
It seems that they are no longer suspects.
As speculation runs fife over rumours of Williams' unusual private life, senior officials now appear to be of the opinion that Williams was probably playing a game of naked hide-and-seek with himself in the middle of the night, and that he accidentally jammed himself in the suitcase in the bath and was tragically unable to extricate himself.
More as we get it.
