The final clue has been revealed in the online treasure hunt for the last libertines tickets to a tiny warm up gig, just days before the Official Libertines reunion at Reading and Leeds Festival. The treasure hunt was called on last week after it was revealed that there are now no more tickets left for this unique event.
Tickets have been changing hands this week for more than £30,000 a pair, and because the venue has such a small capacity, lots of fans have been disappointed. The hunt was started on Friday night after a map of the City of London was posted on a Libertines forum. A free pair of tickets was said to have been buried underneath a lamp post next to a famous London monument and clues have been issued leading people to different pubs around camden and old music haunts of the band that appear on the map.
At these sites they have found clues that have led to websites that give the next clue to the whereabouts of the much sought after tickets.
The most recent clue is believed to be the last and it says. "You'll find the tickets between the all seeing eye and the elephant on stilts". People who have been following the clues believe that this could mean they have to go to the statue on the embankment outside the Dali museum. There are indeed several lamp-posts very close to this location.
The treasure hunt has led to a mad influx of treasure seekers to the City of London all hoping to be the lucky finders. But only two people can share in the delight.
Its like Charlie and the Chocolate factory except with music instead of Chocolate.
One treasure hunter gave up his job as Chairman of a very large British Bank so he could devote all of his time to the hunt. Another has systematically dug up every lamp-post he could find for a fortnight saying if he digs up enough lamp-posts he will eventually find the tickets.
The Police are expecting a deluge of Libertines fans to hit the embankment by morning and so have been asked by Boris Johnson to deploy extra policemen to the scene.
The Chief of the London Metropolitan police said "We're expecting a riot, and these fans are quite scary people, so we might not bother going to police that particular event. We'll just pretend we thought Boris misinterpreted the clue and go somewhere else a bit safer."
These fans, of course, will be used to that kind of devious behaviour. They are after all worshippers of the "No Show King"
As of Midnight 18 August 2010, the hunt continues. Even though the last clue was posted over three hours ago so far no tickets have not been found, which means they're still out there. Happy Hunting, I'm going to find a spade.
