The BBC today announced major changes to it's Match of the Day programme next season. The flagship show shown on Saturday nights will have a new pundit presenting it with the news that Paul the German octopus fresh from his success at predicting results at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be replacing former England and Leicester City striker Gary Lineker as anchorman.
Lineker who has been at the BBC for 15 years, 11 as presenter when asked for a comment refused to speak to the media.
Paul became famous when he predicted all Germany's results and the World Cup final and had turned down numerous offers from Sky and ITV in favour of the BBC.
Tanja Munzig of the Oberhausen Sea Life Aquarium said Paul had been amazing. We put a mussel in a jar with the relevent flag and Paul picks one and each time he gets the result right. We wish him luck on Match of the Day.
Gary Lineker had even more bad news as it emerged that Walkers Crisps are considering dropping him from their adverts in favour of Paul.
Rumours that Alan Hansen is to be replaced by an amoeba are totally unfounded.
