As nominations closed today lefty Diane Abbott made it through to the next round of 'Labour's Got Talent'. Speaking to the media, Barber Shop Quartet: Ed Balls, Andy Burnham, David and Ed Miliband said:
"We think it's really important to have a woman in the final so she can come last. That's why we patronisingly handed her our surplus nominations."
The Quartet, who are due to perform: 'We Always Opposed the Iraq War' in the final, claim they first sung it (quietly) in 2003. According to former press manager Alistair Campbell, however, it is in fact a new song, written in 2010 especially for the contest.
Asked about whether she would give up her regular slot on politics show 'This Week' in the event of becoming Labour leader Ms Abbott replied:
"You must be joking...that's my most lucrative slot, it pays my son's private school fees."
