Media personnel were shocked today as Tony Blair has announced that he announced: "I am 100% behind my wife's decision to change sex", during a press conference about the Gulf War II. Blair's gaffe caused shocked outbursts by those attending the conference, to which Mr Blair simply smiled and blinked.
"It was an absolutely stupid mistake to make," my cameraman said to me. "I can only assume that he was unable to keep his mind on the current issue about whether we should have invaded Iraq...which is totally understandable, really. I'm not sure I'd be able to think about anything else if *my* wife announced that she wanted to be a man."
Cherie is said to be in hiding following the gaffe, but is likely to beat the living snot out of her husband. Political analyst, Jeff Marsden told us: "It's a big thing, this. Cherie Blair looks a bit mannish already, but going for the full operation will cause Tony a few headaches, I think. I wonder if their marital relations will suffer, or indeed, whether there will be any change at all in that department."
Tories are predictably sceptical of the announcement, putting it down to a simple marketing ploy.
"It wouldn't surprise me," said Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith, "if she goes through with all this just so that Tony Blair and his cronies can go down in history...somehow. Yes - cronies. History. Yes."
