LONDON, UK: Call her Goddess, because single-handedly Joanna Lumley has brought Gordon Brown's Labour government to its creaking, arthritic knees. One woman has used her influence and clout to ensure that for once 36000 veterans will be accorded the respect that was rightly owed to them.
And in doing so she has exposed the hypocrisy that pervades Britain's governing policies - a Cabinet that shamelessly grew obese feeding at the public trough even as it dismissed aged, dying Gurkha veterans by telling them to "eat cake". She has succeeded in dragging an ineffectual PM and a government that behaved most dishonorably and abominably to its knees and left it grovelling in its own puddle of lies and duplicity.
No more colonial condescension towards loyal Gurkhas who unquestioningly put their lives on the line to protect Queen and country. No more "Use-'em-and-lose'em" double-dealing, lying and back-pedaling by greedy, over-spending Cabinet ministers who couldn't identify the words 'ethics' and 'integrity' even if the font-size was quadrupled on their Blackberrys.
Enough of caretaker PMs - call an election NOW Mr. Brown and let the people decide.
Is it any wonder that Gurkhas who reposed their faith in one woman now want to see her as Britain's PM? At least she does the honorable thing and fights for the common man.
Overjoyed Gurkhas in London say: "We want Joanna as our Prime Minister because she stands by her word - we trust her. Ayo Joanna Lumley - she is our true British heroine"
