Gordon Brown and David Cameron were locked in a new political row when it was claimed that the Tory chief's wife could run faster than the Labour leaders spouse.
Samantha Cameron, who won the mums race at a recent school sports day, is four years younger than Sarah Brown who came second at an event at the school of her children.
Gordon Brown said "Although Sarah came second her race was a much quicker event and her time would have eclipsed that posted by Samantha Cameron."
David Cameron however refuted the claim saying "If the pace was quicker Sam would have been able to step up. She was quite clearly holding back."
The row has recently become inflamed as Lib-Dem leader Nick Clegg desperate to raise his party's profile issued a winner takes all challenge including his wife, Miriam, as a participant.
"For too long we have had a two party system in this country. Now at last we the Lib-Dems are able to provide a serious challenge." Said Mr Clegg in a speech to his party faithful.
