Roger Me-Butt was today amazed to discover he was nominated to win the Turner Prize.
Roger, who had never had a published work of art before, had neglected to empty his ashtray when it was spotted by a judge from the Turner committee.
"Quite frankly I never thought I had it in me" said Roger "the wife always nags at me being useless but now I'm an artist" he continued.
Roger's wife, Nottin Me-Butt said "He's no artist, he's just lazy."
Judges and sisters Tina and Anthea Turner were at pains to point out the merits of Roger Me-Butts work.
Anthea said "From my Blue Peter days, I can tell it is a significant piece that will evoke many different feelings depending on how you look at it."
Tina added "Eeeh when I were singing wiv Ike in the sixties I knew there were more to life and this work shows this."
This year's winner will be announced at Tate Britain on 1 December 2008 during a live broadcast by Channel 4.
