Leather-faced fashion designer Donatella Versace, whose brother once ran out of time and safety pinned Liz Hurley into a dress at the Oscars, has launched a stinging verbal attack on Channel 4's cheeky oriental shopper, Gok Wan.
In an unprecedented outburst during an interview about her Fashion Group International 'Superstar Award', she suddenly declared through an interpreter, "Why are we wasting time talking about this crap? If we continue to allow that tosser Gok Wan to make designers look like twats on television, we'll have no fashion industry left".
In his latest show Wan (22), best known for pretending to lust after women's breasts like a straight man, asks four aging fashion snobs to spend as much money as possible on an outfit from top London stores, then buys some tat from Primark and cuts it about and adds ribbon. The studio audience, recruited from Iceland stores around the country, then votes for the best styles. Without fail, it is always those of the geometrically couffured celebrity stalker that wins, leaving the designers humiliated and angry.
Friends of the fish-faced diva say that Versace's state of mind has been 'worrying' ever since Victoria Beckham was spotted buying a catsuit from George at Asda disguised as Radavan Karadzic.
In May Versace, who looks like a Jim Henson muppet, was cautioned by French police when she tried to remove a pair of Primark gladiator sandals from Lindsay Lohan's feet at Elton John's toga party and only last month, at glitzy celebrity eatery the Ivy, she hurled a lamb shank at the head of veteran broadcaster Gloria Hunniford, when she overheard her say "Who the fuck is going to pay £10,000 for a designer handbag when you can find an identical one at Lidl for less than a tenner?"
It is the full-lipped Wan, who is reportedly a homosexual, who has borne the brunt of the hot-blooded pensioner's fury, however. Following the sensational outburst, several other top designers have publically blamed Wan, who is hotly tipped to become the new face of 'Specsavers', for the current crisis in the fashion industry.
Alexander McQueen has reportedly said that he'd like to kick his boney arse back to Brighton, Jean-Paul Gautier has called him a grand poopy and Stella Mcartney, daughter of elderly lothario Paul, has threatened to cut off his credit.
