The message to the people from the President of Zimbabwe

Robert Mugabe announced today that he was quietly optimistic of pulling off a Surprise Election Victory in the run-off against his long time rival Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mr Mugabe said "there is absolutely no truth in this election being rigged as I have given the Zimbabwean people every chance to vote for Mr Tsvangirai."

"My Staff will assist everyone who wishes to Vote by accompanying them to the Polling Booths as anyone would do in a free and democratic Country."

Mr Mugabe added "I have wanted to retire now for many years but I have been encouraged to carry on because of the smile on the faces of our people."

"They realise just how lucky they are and are so grateful for everything that I do for them."

"This could be a day for the Underdog, a day for Democracy and everlasting Peace for our People."

"If I win this Election everyone will have a job, clothes on their back, food on the table, a car in the garage and money in the bank."

"It will be a day of Freedom and Prosperity for Everyone in our beautiful Country."

"Long live our President."
