London - (Hitler's Pope Mess): Former BBC Scud Stud journalist Rageh Omar has been reported to the Broadcasting Standards Authority for making a farcical quack science program about the Turin Shroud.
The complaints file says that public school and Oxford educated Omar, 40, has been bribed by Scientology-bankrolled Opus Dei fraudsters into rubbishing exhaustive carbon dating tests proving the shroud is an elaborate 14th century fake.
Omar's Easter weekend pseudo-documentary - complete with dramatic sound and lighting effects - alleges that the 1988 tests are the result of a conspiracy to discredit Christianity's greatest hoax.
"His pitiful BBC rant conveniently ignores how in 1939 Hitler's Pope Pius XII relaunched the Nazi polemic that the Turin Shroud is the burial cloth of Jesus," Prof V Smart of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said today.
"It also blatantly ignores countless generations of previous Papal statements affirming it is nothing more than a clever work of 14th century art."
Extensive and rigorous scientific testing conducted by three world-class universities in 1988 was unanimous that the shroud is just a mid 1300's artifact.
But Omar is having none of it.
£75,000 is the reported fee that it took for this former top-notch Beeb reporter to abase himself to the level of Judas Iscariot.
