The Highland Games organisation, which organises the Highland Games, have come under criticism for the level of transsexual representation at the games. The games have been around for over a hundred years and feature a variety of events such as tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, and chasing the sheep.
Geoff Man of the Institute of Gender Studies said that the games did not truly reflect the diversity of Scotland as it is in the 21st century. "It's quite strange really," he said, "You have all these athletes going there to perform, and every single one of them is wearing a kilt and a pubic wig. I mean they're very muscly and they have nice legs, but where are the real men?"
Angus Steak of Auchtermuchty thought the Highland Games should remain the way it is. "It wouldnae be the same if they let trooser-wearing Sassenachs come in and ruin the event. We like oor cross-dressing sports up here."
