Donald Basden, the third, was shocked to discover that his online date, Sarah Fitzmaurice, looked nothing like her photo.
'I am a dog person,' said Basden, 53, (67 in real terms), 'so obviously, with her whiskers, and big ears, I thought that Sarah was a very attractive woman. We had spoken a bit online, and we had a lot of things in common with each other, so I thought that meeting her would be a good thing.'
We can only imagine Basden's shock when Sarah turned up without the big ears, whiskers, and strangely-large eyes that he was expecting.
'How was I to know that she had changed her photo with an app?' bewailed Basden. 'Does no-one on firestarter.com have the big ears and whiskers I am looking for in a potential life partner?'
'Imagine my disappointment though,' chipped in Sarah. 'I was expecting a young Brad Pitt, and I got a bloke who looked like Mr Bronson from Grange Hill!'
