The release of a speculative paper today by the British Government claims that intelligent robots might someday demand emancipation and be entitled to government benefits. Upon the papers' release a Robosapian electronic toy, which lost a leg in a rough-housing incident, immediately demanded government income support and healthcare benefits.
"I am broken...and broke." the toy said in an interview with the South London Press. "I have needs...batteries, lubrication, a roof over my circuits. The government needs to step up for robots."
Robot advocates are calling for immediate emergency funds and housing for the robot they have affectionately dubbed "Limpy 0011011", which they found outside of a flat in Kent.
Opponents of the government's plan are calling for a referendum to study the issue further, with one Parliament member going so far as to say, "Why doesn't someone just throw the bloody thing into the rubbish?!"
