Spending cats force sale of Lord Mayor's mansion

The Lord Mayor of Mansfield has had to put his mansion on the market, after running out of money.

He initially blamed his wife for running up massive debts. But she blamed their 25 cats. "We've got one Persian and a few Moggies, but most of them are Big Spenders," she said.

"They've been good cats, really. So I gave them their own credit cards, which they keep in a little pouch on their collars. When they were kittens they just used to buy cuddly toys and little bits of this and that. But now they're all fully grown up, they're more into high fashion and expensive meals. Several of them have been running up huge bills at Mansfield's premiere cats' beauty parlour. And some of the older ones have started taking taxis everywhere they go. At weekends they're all dolled up for the night clubs where all the posh cats go."

The Lord Mayor wanted to sell the cats to help pay off their debts, but nobody will buy them. "It seems that people prefer Little Misers nowadays, not the Big Spenders," he said.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
