Barnsley: riding high

Unfancied South Yorkshire club, Barnsley, have shocked their doubting fans by storming to the top of the Championship weeks before the race for the title has really got going.

The Oakwell club were favourites for relegation at the end of last season, but have opened up this year's campaign in stirring fashion, and are, thus far, unbeaten home and away.

They currently lead a chasing pack headed by Birmingham City, Blackpool and newly-promoted Brighton, followed by Bristol City and Burnley - staggeringly, all clubs whose names begin with the letter 'B'.

But Tykes' boss Keith Hill issued a stark warning to supporters when he said:

"It's early days yet. And, if people can cast their minds back far enough, they will remember that the club was in exactly the same position at this stage last season, and it was just after the first ball was kicked that it all went to shit."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
