There was a surprise for a passenger on a bus in the Thai capital of Bangkok this morning when, as his bus came to a halt to pick up more passengers, he noticed an old woman sitting at the stop wearing a pink flowery long skirt and flip-flops complemented by a red England 1966 World Cup-winning shirt.
The woman, who must have been 75 if she was a day, sat glumly watching the traffic crawling by on Samsen Road opposite the Supreme Complex, a recently-opened shopping mall in the Samsen area.
The man who witnessed the incident, English teacher Moys Kenwood, 27, claimed that he was "thoroughly taken aback", and had to take a second look before he was prepared to believe what his eyes had initially told him.
He said:
"The shirt looked authentic, even down to the Three Lions crest. I regarded her for a minute or two whilst the vehicle was stuck in the traffic, and, when she caught my eye, she stared back at me like a glassy-eyed gorilla looks at visitors to its cage in a zoo. Then I went to work."
