A Malaysian cyclist suffered a strange injury after a crash in the World Cup in Manchester on Saturday.
As the pack tried in vain to catch up with leader, the United Kingdom's Sir Chris Hoy, a multiple pile up involving 4 of the trailing 6 riders occurred on the last lap.
Although he got up and managed to win the bronze medal, Malaysia's Azizulhasni Awang was later taken to hospital after suffering a leg injury.
The rider underwent an operation to remove a shard from his leg.
In his tweet, Awang announced "Operation complete. Splinter found in leg".
Former Radio One DJ Mike Reid was stunned at the news, commenting "We all wondered what happened to them after their hit 'Costafine Town ' in 1974, but we never imagined Splinter had been hiding in a Malaysian cyclist's leg" .
Enquiries are continuing.
