Furious scenes in Salonika yesterday evening ahead of the Aris Salonika v Manchester City Europa League knockout round first leg tie, as hundreds of Aris fans angrily demanded ticket refunds. Apparently, the fans were labouring under the misapprehension that they had purchased tickets to see Aris play Manchester United!
Confused supporters were seen milling around the stadium and wondering why on earth Manchester United were playing in blue!
"This no bladdy good!" Aris fan, Aristotle Papadopoulus raged. "I come here tonight to see bladdy Ryan "Giggsy" Giggs, Paul "Scholesy" Scholes, Dimitar "Barbie" Berbatov, Wayne "Wazza" Rooney and Ji Sung "Parky" Park. Not bladdy Tevez, Yo-Yo Toure, and that bladdy midget on the wing. Is bladdy rip off! I want full bladdy refund. I no pay bladdy good money to watch Manchester bladdy City!"
Aris officials apologised for issuing misleading pre-match publicity, and sources informed Skoob Sports News that a compromise was eventually reached.
"We sort out problem," Aris Commercial Director said. "Is no problem now. Most of our supporters are not thick-stupids, and were fully aware that we play the Manchester City, not the bladdy Manchester United. Manchester United in other competition. Better one. Champions League, innit. We have the dickheads here in Greece too. Being big bladdy dickhead is no exclusively English disease."
As it transpired, those who opted for refunds probably got it right, as the game ended up a bollock-numbingly dull 0-0 draw.
More as we get it.
