As Athletics teams assemble in Delhi for the Commonwealth Games they realise that there are some extra competitions to deal with.
First, crossing a bridge has been made into a new event for the steeplechase. The added excitement is that the bridge has collapsed leaving some extra jumps. The Australian team spokesman complained: 'They think we are all Kangaroos, but we are just the same as anyone else.'
Then a new competition has been devised: Clean your own Department. This will involve handling a dustbin and brush.
Building your own accommodation is a further event and will favour body builders.
Indian representatives were surprised at the grumbles of athletes. 'In Greece, in the old days, people had to take part in Cleaning your own Department without a dustbin and brush. They used their hands to clean up and never complained'.
So annoyed are teams that they are threatening to leave without taking part in the Games. India is poised to win many gold medals and may even take a clean sweep of the whole games. This would leave the venue suitable for the next Commonwealth Games.
