New Delhi: It's a new introductory offer for the Commonwealth games (CWG). The Indian Sports Department and co-organizers of the biggest sports bash in Blighty has come up with an offer that they think athletes cannot refuse.
"Every foreign athlete who registers for the games will get a special participation medal. And for those who win one medal, one will be awarded free," said the new Officer-in-charge of the CWG Wilyrao Papadkar.
"It's a great idea. Never done before, and says a lot about Indians and their shrewd sense of marketing," enthused Lord Mandydrakes, British Peer in London. "It's Indian ingenuity that keeps the commonwealth ticking," he added.
The offer isn't open t athletes from India. "Indians win so few of them at internationals, They'll be overjoyed to just get one," said a pragmatic Wilyrao.
With several international athletes deciding not to turn up at the Games, speculations are that India may end up winning most of the medals. The offer was to encourage foreign participation. "Indians can't afford to be called racist," Wilyrao said.
