Rumor has it that the 84-year-old sports legend, Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra, has been invited to compete on the next cycle of the hit TV show, Dancing with the Stars. But it's not a done deal.
Sure he did say, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it," but there's some conflicting evidence about whether he will take this fork. Reportedly he wasn't overly impressed by the group of talent scouts who tried to recruit him for the show, telling his wife Carmen, "It was impossible to get a conversation going; everybody was talking too much."
On the positive side, however, friends report that he's a big fan of Dancing with the Stars and never misses the show. "You can observe a lot by watching," they say he's told them. And New Jersey neighbors think that Yogi may be dieting, perhaps to get himself ready to dance. In a neighborhood pizzeria, he was heard to say, "You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six."
Apparently Dancing with the Stars would have to take a back seat to his current project: setting the record straight about what he's actually said in his lifetime and when he's been misquoted. He's insisted, "I really didn't say everything I said!"
The deciding factor may be whether Yogi is interested in traveling all the way to Los Angeles to do the show. He's not a great traveler. The last time he went to California, he complained about the hotel he was staying in: "The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase."
So, who knows? To dance or not to dance, that is the question. That decision, well -- "It ain't over till it's over." Right, Yogi?
