Sports fans should break this down succinctly: If you like football, baseball and hockey, you'd better get off your duff and do something about basketball. If you don't, you can kiss your favorite games goodbye.
That's the message being sent by the player's unions of the NFL, MLB and NHL due to lagging ticket sales they blame on overlapping sports seasons. Summing up the sentiment, player rep Nick Shaver had this to say, "We all play for a few months and then go home to our families, leaving room on the calendar for other sports. Even the baseball guys eventually wind down their season and go home. But the NBA? They play that damned game almost year round. It just never ends!"
The vote came down a 5-to-1 line in favor of a multi-sport strike until the NBA ends its season.
The NBA had no official comment. But off the record, they were noted to say: "Those players voting for a strike should be watching their backs, ya dig? Because drive-by shootings can happen anywhere, yo!"
