Hero Quarterback Drew Brees returned home to New Orleans with the World Champion Superbowl kings the Saints in the early hours of this morning and stepped straight into a blazing row with the 'Who Dat' Nation.
The controversy erupted as Brees allegedly said to a teammate in an off the record moment:
"Hey bubba, I didn't just do it for New Orleans, or even the Gulf Coast, I did it for Texas too."
Unfortunately for Brees, the aside was overheard by a freelance reporter named Hariman K Picklechomper, who wasted no time in selling his "story" to the international media posse.
What sparked even further controversy was the fact that Brees refused point blank to retract the statement. He told us:
"Sure, the team and I did it for the city of New Orleans, sure we did it for all the folks in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast, but I'm a Texan, and I'd be lying to you if I said that there wasn't a part of me doing it for Texas too. It's unfortunate that there's always one fool out to spoil it for everybody else."
The Saints clinched the game and secured the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy in the 4th quarter with a pass interception which was run in for a TD by the Saints defense, giving them an unassailable 14 point lead.
Many Texans joined the celebrations of the 'Who Dat' nation by raising a glass to Drew Brees, the most toasted Texan in US history.
More as we get it.
